I don't have the best memory in the world, and with the constant rebalances, I routinely have to "show info" to remember what all the bonuses are. And, really, you do need to know ALL the bonuses (that little one you disregard tends to be the one that kills you!).

But it's more than that. How many low slots does the ship have (ie. can he fit a web and scram)? Ever since CCP added drone bays to nearly every ship, what's the bay size? Lots of things to keep track of, even if you PvP every day. No shame in checking info!

As to FW space, I only have experience routinely flying around Black Rise and around Agoze. The nature of Pvp in each are is heavily influenced by the groups that hang around that area, so I'd imagine the various warzones are all quite different.Talvorian Dexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01349917611382684205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4159840807393856856.post-65189243607814068782016-02-12T08:17:58.496-05:002016-02-12T08:17:58.496-05:00Thanks for the reply. I remember I went out to fight with Stay Frosty pilots as I have read Rixx’s blog and figured they seemed a bunch of cool people, and that they would give me a “fair” fight. They did, I lost everytime though :D but I don’t mind that.

Would you consider any FW space better than others in terms of getting the better fights or is all FW space pretty much the same?

Your reply actually highlighted another issue, ship types, there are so many these days and remembering their capabilities are impossible, you just don’t have time to check info on the ship all the time to see what they are good at, you get to know the basics like interceptor, bomber etc, but as for bonuses then its difficult.

I would be very interested in a “lose 100 frigs” series of posts, I am very much a wanabe pvper and I think that knowledge would be very useful. I used to enjoy reading the posts on Azual Skolls blog especially the ones where he talked about ships, fittings etc. like this - http://www.evealtruist.com/2012/09/know-your-enemy-t1-combat-frigates.html

That’s again for the good articles, I enjoy reading your blog.
steevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02448986668157096376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4159840807393856856.post-2629013659807120422016-02-12T08:00:33.558-05:002016-02-12T08:00:33.558-05:00These are definitely good points, and I could put ...These are definitely good points, and I could put together articles on each of them. Briefly, though, if you're interested in learning the mechanics, I always recommend faction warfare space. It's a bit of "rock paper scissors", but you can certainly learn the pairings that way, and most pilots I've found fight in frigates. Yes, you get some T3D warriors, but just ignore them.

I wouldn't say you're going too cheap - T2 fit on a T1 hull is pretty typical. When you're facing huge gangs, they need to mess up for you to have a chance. That might mean a bad fleet comp (ie. 1 fast ship with a bunch of slow ones, of which you can kill the fast ship) or fly stupidly (aggress all their tackle on one side of a gate, forget about gate guns, etc.). Each area of space tends to have different kinds of fights, though - FW space tends towards frigate solos and cruiser gangs, null favors very small gang roamers and blob defense fleets (with a lot of foolish heroes), WH space tend to roll large (faction, T3, deadspace). Each one provides a different kind of PvP.

Determining range isn't just about keeping your distance... sometimes it means getting in close. Sure, going against a Vexor in a frigate within scram range is a bad idea in all cases (they're almost always scram and web fit), but for most ships, if their optimal is 8km, they're going to have tracking issues up close. Likewise, if you're flying in FW space, consider fitting an MWD and point instead of a scram; most likely, the ships you face will all be AB and scram fit. Choose a kitey ship (Slicer, Tristan) and ping away at them from range.

Later in that roam described above, I came across a Hurricane lagging behind his fleet. Knowing SMA uses 720 artillery fits, I got in close and hugged him with a web and scram, but my dps wasn't large enough to break him before he burned back to the gate. But he couldn't hit me; I determined range by staying under his guns' tracking, and would have succeeded if I'd been in my command dessie instead of my Sabre.

I was bad at PvP too, and was terrible at it in every other game I'd ever tried (I don't have the "twitch" reflex).

I think I'm going to start a "lose 100 frigs" series talking about what folks should try to learn during that time, though.Talvorian Dexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01349917611382684205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4159840807393856856.post-79349624688466400952016-02-12T06:16:52.447-05:002016-02-12T06:16:52.447-05:00Interesting read, here is the dilemma I have. Let’...Interesting read, here is the dilemma I have. Let’s say I want to stick with frigates and fit up a standard Merlin I find I find the following issues.

1. Most people fly around in bigger, more expensive things than Frigates.
2. I don’t know what the optimal ships to aggress in that ship are.

So I die, get back to fit another ship and decide on a cruiser. I have struggled to find a fight until you jump into a gate camp and they just obliterate you. Perhaps I am just going too cheap in those ships (I use T2 fittings on T1 hulls).

Another issue is how to fly the ship. I read about people determining range, but if you are in a ship with a 10km scram and the opponents optimal is 8km (for eg) for his weapons then 2km is not much leeway and action on the battlefield happens so quickly that it is impossible to keep that 2km leeway.

I have determined that I am just bad at PVP, I could go out and lose those 100 frigates but not know really what to look at to determine why I lost them, my flying (probably), opponent chosen, or an myriad of other reasons.
steevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02448986668157096376noreply@blogger.com
